Why does Room Analysis say my photo is not a room?
ProUpdated August 19, 2026
Short answer
AI Room Analysis only accepts photographs of real rooms and spaces. If the photo is a person, a product shot, a document, a screenshot, a drawing or an image too close or too dark to read as a room, DecorAI refuses it and shows a "not a room" message. Retake the photo from a doorway or corner with the lights on, and it will normally be accepted.
Common causes
- A close-up of a single object or wall with no room context
- A photo taken in near darkness
- A floor plan, sketch or 3D render rather than a photograph
- A screenshot of a listing page, including the browser interface
- A photo of a person or a pet as the subject
This is a deliberate check, not a bug: an analysis of something that is not a room would return scores that mean nothing.

Photos and uploadsWhat makes a good photo for AI interior design? The best photo for DecorAI is taken from a doorway or corner, holds the camera level at about chest height, shows the floor, the walls and part of the ceiling, and is evenly lit and in focus. A photo like that gives the AI enough structure to keep your room recognisable while it restyles it.Photos and uploadsCan there be people in my photo?DecorAI is built for rooms, buildings and outdoor spaces, not for photographs of people, and every upload passes an automated safety check. People incidentally present in the space — or depicted in framed photos, posters, artwork or a TV screen — are normally fine, but a photo whose subject is a person will be rejected.TroubleshootingWhy was my image or request blocked?DecorAI runs automated safety checks on the uploaded photo, the written instruction and the generated result. A block usually means the photo’s subject is a person, the image is not a room or space, or the instruction asked for content outside what DecorAI generates. Retake the photo of the space itself and describe the room rather than people.
