Should I tidy or remove furniture before taking the photo?
Updated August 19, 2026
Short answer
A quick tidy helps, but you do not need to empty the room. DecorAI works with furnished rooms, and existing furniture actually helps the AI judge scale. Remove obvious clutter — laundry, boxes, cables, bins — because heavy clutter competes with the redesign.
Worth clearing
- Piles of clothes, toys, papers and boxes
- Drying racks, bins, visible cables and chargers
- Anything blocking a window or a doorway
Fine to leave
- Sofas, beds, tables, wardrobes — the AI can replace or keep them
- Rugs, curtains and lamps
- Plants and artwork
If the room is genuinely too full to read, run Empty the Room first and then design from the cleared result.

It is used before planning a renovation, before moving, and as the first step in creating a clean staged listing photo.Photos and uploadsWhat makes a good photo for AI interior design? The best photo for DecorAI is taken from a doorway or corner, holds the camera level at about chest height, shows the floor, the walls and part of the ceiling, and is evenly lit and in focus. A photo like that gives the AI enough structure to keep your room recognisable while it restyles it.
