What does the Inpainting editor do?

Free and ProUpdated August 19, 2026

Short answer

The Inpainting editor changes only the part of a photo you paint over. You mask an area with an adjustable brush, describe what should be there instead, and DecorAI edits just that region — replacing one sofa, removing a radiator, changing a single wall — while the rest of the image stays exactly as it was.

Using the brush well

  1. 1Zoom in and paint slightly beyond the edges of the object, including its shadow.
  2. 2Keep the mask tight — masking half the room turns inpainting into a full redesign.
  3. 3Describe only what should appear in the masked area: "a cream three-seat sofa", not "a nicer living room".
  4. 4Use the undo and clear-mask controls freely; the mask is not saved until you generate.

Inpainting is the right tool for the last 10% of a design — the one lamp you dislike, the radiator you want gone, the artwork that should be a mirror. It is far more efficient than regenerating the whole room and hoping the rest stays the same.
