Can AI replace an interior designer?
Short answer
No — AI replaces the first stage of the work, not the designer. DecorAI is faster and cheaper than a designer at generating and comparing visual directions, but it cannot measure your room, source and schedule products, manage trades, or take responsibility for decisions about structure, safety and building regulations.
| DecorAI | Interior designer | |
|---|---|---|
| Visual directions | Minutes, unlimited on Pro | Days to weeks |
| Cost of exploring options | Free to a few pounds a month | Hundreds to thousands |
| Measured drawings and specs | No | Yes |
| Product sourcing and ordering | No | Yes |
| Trades, scheduling, site visits | No | Yes |
| Structural and regulatory judgement | No | Yes, or refers you on |
| Accountability for the result | No | Yes |
The productive pattern is to use both. Arrive at a designer with three generated directions and a Design Report and you skip the slowest, most expensive part of the process — working out what you actually want. Many designers now use DecorAI themselves for exactly that stage.
